Each game in the Farsley Chess Club Online Championship will be a 25+5 rated rapid-play match hosted on Chess.com. This means each player starts with 25 minutes on the clock, gaining an additional 5 seconds per move.

Pairings for each round will be announced every Sunday, unless delays occur due to unfinished games. Player matchups are based on Chess.com rapid ratings. Once pairings are released, players are expected to coordinate and schedule their match at a mutually convenient time. This flexible system is designed to accommodate players with different schedules and make the tournament easier to manage.

Important: It is the White player's responsibility to initiate contact with their opponent via email. Email addresses are provided in the weekly pairings email.

If a player is unable to take part in a round, they may request a bye or ask to reschedule. We’ll do our best to accommodate such requests where possible.

Entry and Participation

The online entry form has now been closed as the tournament is already underway. However, late entries may still be considered. If you're interested in joining, please email us at farsleychessclub@gmail.com — we may still be able to fit you in.

Winner

At the end of the 7 rounds, the player with the highest total points will be declared the winner. As the prize is a trophy, there can only be one victor.

In the event of a tie for first place after all rounds are completed, a blitz playoff will be used to determine the overall winner. The format will consist of 5+3 blitz games, beginning with two games—one with each player having White. If no winner emerges, players will continue alternating colours until a decisive game is played. This stage will be referred to as the sudden death phase.

Since this is a rapidplay competition, it's hoped that a clear winner will emerge without the need for a playoff.
